A CO-ED Humanitarian Motorcycle Tour

PAKISTAN 2023

May 29 - June 09

about THE TOUR

"Rebels With A Cause"

Profile Picture

Come May 2023, Kiki Azim and Rebels will take off on a Co-Ed motorcycle journey to the vast lands of Pakistan, one of the most misunderstood countries in the world. Having traveled around various parts of the globe, we can say the most enriching experiences are the ones that you can immerse yourself in the culture and support the improvement of systems in some capacity. This motorcycle journey and mission will be an extension of the work we began in 2022 during our maiden voyage. Kiki/Anjuli, a Pakistani native, has been a driving force.. or shall we say a “riding” force and supporter of the moto community for over 10 years. A road warrior and world traveler whose long time dream has been to promote and share a positive experience of her homeland, all whilst coupling together what she loves most…motorcycle adventures and helping those in need.

If you feel that something like this speaks or screams to the core of your soul then this is the motorcycle tour for you.

Rebels with a Cause 2022

Along with our amazing ADA crew, we will begin our journey in the green and bustling city of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, nestled between the Margalla Hills. It is here that we’ll make our first contact with AKHO, the “Cause” part of our tour, do some touristy stuff too, and set off on an unbelievable array of landscapes, through the ancient Silk Road and Karakoram highway. Traversing several villages with unique ethnic backgrounds, showing you how beautifully diverse the people of Pakistan truly are. Through Naran, the gateway to the world’s biggest mountain ranges, breath-taking mountainside rides await us, with surprises at every turn, all the way through to the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

By the time you reach this place, you will have experienced local flavors, local culture, the world’s highest border, and Pakistan’s world famous hospitality. The final leg will take us through the world’s highest polo field at Shandur, we then make our way down to Kalash. The people of this lost tribe are believed to be the last surviving descendants of Alexander the Great, and sadly these Kalashi/indigenous people are on the brink of being wiped out. It will be up to us Rebels to hear their stories and advocate for their survival.

After Kalash, we slowly make our way back to the capital city of Islamabad, with full hearts and pure euphoria after having lived through some crazy adrenaline filled moments. We promise that your days in the mountains will have changed everything you thought you knew about Pakistan, and you will leave knowing that one day you will be back for more.

THE ROUTE

TOUR ITINERARY

MAY 29 - JUNE 09

DAY 0

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

After your long haul flight you will be picked up at ISB INTL airport and taken to your hotel/guesthouse where you can adjust to the 12 hour jet-lag (for those coming in from USA/CANADA) and recoop after traveling halfway across the world. Optional dinner may be on the schedule between us riders, depending on levels of fatigue etc.

DAY 1

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

As us Rebels will be adjusting to our new surroundings in the beautiful capital city of Pakistan, our first hop will be to visit Faisal Masjid, the first modern architectural construction of a mosque built in the early 80s. We’ll do lunch at Saidpur village where one of the rare hindu temples on Muslim territory still remains standing. Let’s not linger too long, as we want to make it to AKHO Sunbeam School before the last bell of the day. We’ll meet and greet the children and teachers and present our donations, and head to Balakot for the night.

DAY 2

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

It’ll be your first day on the motorcycle in Pakistan so we leave in the morning, familiarize ourselves with the bikes, as we make our way to the foothills of the Karakoram mountains. This leg of the trip takes us through scenic roads, through beautiful mountainous villages, winding roads, and plenty of stops to take photos. Lunch will be on the go with a little rest and time to mingle with people. We always try our best to stay at family-run guest houses/hotels for a more personalized and memorable experience.

DAY 3

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

Naran is known to be the entry point to the North. We’ll encounter a few water crossings, a few herds of goats, as we make our way up to Babusar Pass which is 13,700ft above sea-level and one of the most spectacular high passes in the country. You finally get a chance to ride the world-famous Karakoram Highway on this day! The “KKH” is considered the highest paved international road in the world.. Tracing one of the many pathways of the ancient Silk Road, the KKH is also often called the 'Eighth Wonder of the World.' We ride all the way to Hunza, which approximately takes 7 hours without stops…but trust me, what awaits us there is worth every mile of the way.

DAY 4

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

After enjoying our beautiful breakfast overlooking the majestic Rakaposhi mountain we will enjoy a day off of the bikes. We’ll visit Karimabad, Hunza Bazaar, and head up to the 800-year-old Biltit & Altit Forts. Here we’ll have tea and lunch overlooking the Hunza river. On the way back we’ll stop at CIQAM, an all women run woodworking factory. Afterwards we’ll return to our hotel for dinner and have Moin show us some magic tricks!

DAY 5

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

Breakfast will be served bright and early. It’s gonna be a long climb up to the world’s highest frontier. CHINA. We’ll go through tunnels, pass lakes, and glaciers. You’ll ride through some of the wildest sceneries you’ve ever seen in your life. The Pak-China border is at a whopping 16,200 ft altitude. So forgive us if we don’t stay and party there too long. On the way back we’ll stop and rest in Gulmit for the night along the magical Hunza River.

DAY 6

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

On this day you’ll have the option of cruising on the bikes or riding in one of the support vehicles. We’ll visit the Hussaini Suspension Bridge where you’ll have a chance to cross over the Hunza River. Afterwards we’ll make our way over to the women’s weaving center or the NKMA community based school to meet and greet the local kiddos. Then we’ll finish the day off at the Attabad Lake for a boat ride or taking some jet skis out for a spin, why not?

DAY 7

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

Yet another yummy breakfast in the morning and the group departs for Gilgit. We’ll ride through the Pak - China friendship tunnel that spans over 7km. Then we arrive in Gilgit for a quick lunch and visit the 7th century Kargah Buddha. Once we arrive in Gah Kuch we’ll have dinner and give rest to our bodies as the next day’s going to be an early one.

DAY 8

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

We’ll have breakfast bright and early as this will be the longest day on the bikes. With the Wakhan Corridor to our right and Shandur National Park to our left, there will be plenty of scenic gems to take in along our ride. Lunch will be en route. We will stop at Shandur Pass, where the world’s highest polo fields is. And finally rest our sore butts in Mastuj for the night.

DAY 9

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

Although this day ride claims to be merely 80 miles, it takes us a full day to get to Ayun. We’ll enjoy lunch en route in Buni. Womp womp... another day surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and rivers. You’ll see some of the most prominent peaks of the Hindu Kush region, leaving you mesmerized. Riders and crew finally get to kick their feet up in Ayun for the night.

DAY 10

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

This will be a very special day for us Rebels as our mission extends to the people of the Kalash valley. A people who are believed to be the last descendants of Alexander the Great, a lost tribe hidden in a remote village in the northern mountains of Pakistan. We shall immerse ourselves with this unique and vibrant tribe of indigenous people, amidst their village, their traditions, their incredible school and immense beauty. We will hear their stories, learn their history, and do everything in our power to ensure their future.

DAY 11

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

We’ll be riding along mountains and rivers and small villages all day long. But the treat of the day will be us riding through Lowari Pass, the Stelvio Pass of Pakistan. Once we get through this mind-blowing road we’ll be rewarded with yet another flavorful lunch en route. Riders will arrive in Mardan (or not...) for the night depending on how we’re feeling after Lowari Pass. It’s important to leave some wiggle room for any delays that might occur en route.

DAY 12

ISLAMABAD - BALAKOT

This will be our last day on the bikes. Boohoo. It’s gonna look a lot like our first day, except we’re gonna look ten years older, but, on the plus side we’ll be better riders for sure, so go ahead and enjoy playing frogger until we get to our final destination, Islamabad. Once we reach the capital make sure to hug our support crew tight and thank them for keeping us safe and alive throughout the tour. This will be the last night that’s included in the package, however, if you still want second servings of adventure, additional nights can be arranged for you to explore this grand city as it has so much to offer.

F.A.Q

INCASE THE VIDEOS DON’T ANSWER ‘EM FOR YA!

Do I need a motorcycle license to be in a tour?

A valid operator’s license from your home country specifically with the motorcycle endorsement is necessary and will be confirmed at the starting point of your tour. This is not only for legal and insurance reasons but also for the safety of yourself and the people on the road with you.

How can I be a part of RWAC without going on the tour?

There are a bunch of ways you can help, whether it’s through donations or sponsorships. Please sign up for our newsletter or drop us a line in the “contact us” section.

Why am I being redirected to book the tour on another website?

A huge part of RWAC is to promote locals whose mission it is to highlight the gems of their nation. So I called upon my trusted friend, Moin Khan, a pioneer in Pakistan for Moto tours and his company A Different Agenda. By booking with them we are helping the people of Pakistan thrive. They take care of everything for us, how sweet of them!

Can I pay in installments?

A non-refundable $500 deposit is required to secure your spot on the tour. During checkout you'll have the option to pay all at once or make installments leading up to the tour date. Please contact our tour partner, A Different Agenda, for specific details.

What kind of physical condition do I need to be in?

We obviously hope you are in excellent physical and mental condition anytime you plan on riding a motorcycle. The riding level is “moderate,” 3 years minimum riding experience is required and some off road experience will be necessary. Our approval of your condition does not take the place of a trusted doctor’s evaluation. Also, we recommend you to arrive two days earlier than a tour date to avoid Jet Lag messing with you.

What kind of weather will we encounter and gear will I need to ride?

The simple rule is: Anything is possible, so prepare accordingly. Riding season in Pakistan starts in May and ends around mid-October. It’s generally great weather to be in the Himalayas but the winds can suddenly change and short storms can hit us out of nowhere. So bring your rain gear, a full-face helmet, bring a summer mesh jacket for hot days, plus a warm layer or two. There’s a wide range of weather possibilities and temps so BE READY FOR WHATEVER!

How long are typical riding days?

Riding days can vary from 150-350km (95-220mi) per day, depending on the roads and routes. In the twisty Himalayas or the Karakoram range a 300 km day can easily take up to 7 hours at times due to ferry crossings, side excursions, or depending on other activities, so just keep in mind that ADA designs itineraries that make full use of your vacation time, making it «mission impossible» to get bored at any given moment.

What if I don’t speak the language?

Lucky for you lucky for us, Pakistan was colonized by the British, so it’s the official language and everyone speaks and understands it, so you needn’t worry!

What is the recommended arrival date?

We recommend you to arrive two days before the tour begins. We want you to wear off your jet lag, and be fresh for the adventurous journey ahead.

How long in advance do I need to book?

The Visa process sometimes takes up to 2 months for Pakistan so we suggest getting your visa as soon as possible.

How do I get a visa?

Please visit https://visa.nadra.gov.pk for complete information.

Where can I get travel insurance?

If you are looking for a travel insurance to go along with your trip to Pakistan, we would recommend WorldNomads.com, which may be the adequate type of insurance that fits our kind of adventure. Or as an add-on directly from our Tour Boss on A different Agenda

How many people are on the tour?

10 - 15 Riders will be on the tour

Will there be cell phone reception and wifi?

Good freakin’ question. In urban and more developed cities like Islamabad yes, but not so much in the rural villages and mountainous regions. Please do inform your loved ones in advance so they don’t worry if they don’t hear back from you until we’ve reached a more developed zone.
